linkedin_messagesAre you guilty of messaging your LinkedIn connections without doing your homework first? Tch, tch.

Broadcasting marketing messages to people who are NOT in your target audiences can spell disaster. Want a good example?

“Hi Elaine,

My name is Joe Blow, I’m a small business-marketing consultant and here’s my story…

I come from and live in the small business trenches, battle proven at building million dollar businesses…

Learning about marketing was only to help my own (admittedly at the time – failing) business. My expenses were bigger than my income, and my overheads – wow! Hard nut to crack every month… yada yada…

My goal is to implement into your business direct response marketing that WORKS.

I will help write and refine your sales copy and web pages, review design, evaluate current marketing or marketing opportunities, and make recommendations to take your business forward.”

The entire message consisted of 1142 words!!! And, it was all about what “Joe” could do to help me market better.

Hello, Joe! I am a marketer! If you’d read my profile, you’d know that.

And, if I even wanted help with my marketing copy, would I hire someone who makes typos in messages? “Hers What I Want You To Do Next.”

Bottom line? Before you send out any LinkedIn messages, do your homework. Blanketing your connections with irrelevant information is not a good way to endear yourself to others and enhance your personal brand.

Do YOU get LinkedIn messages like this? How do you reply?
